Cold food
I was attracted to this restaurant by all the excellent reviews and the amazing website they have on the internet. This information makes Frida?s sound like the best place to go for traditional Mexican food. However I have to disagree. The service was poor. We stood for several minutes waiting for the host to acknowledge we were there to begin with; once we were seated we were left unattended for long time. Later, they brought us the usual and still unusual stale chips/bread and salsas/dips. We order the shrimp empanadas and I got to tell you they were awful! The filling tasted more like cream of mushroom soup. They were overcooked and yet cold, covered in a steaming sauce that gave the appearance of hot, fresh food - no shrimp by the way? After one bite? I was finished with trying the empanadas and worried about what was coming next. I ordered the Enchiladas Suizas because it was recommended. My husband ordered a shredded beef burrito. The taste was not impressive, the way the food was presented on the plate seemed nice but unnecessary because of the flavor. The pastries looked good but we were really turned off by the whole experience. I wonder if maybe we were not as lucky as the ones who love this place but honestly, the price and quality of food and service made a huge first impression and therefore we won?t be going back or recommending Frida to any of our friends.
Good luck!

Food OK but very spicy, service bad, expensive for what you get by Joan T. at InsiderPages
We saw the menu and wanted to try this restaurant, hoping for more unique authentic Mexican food.
We had the seafood empanadas - the filling was good but they were deep fried and very crispy, we were expecting something lighter from a restaurant that say they do healthy food.
The salsas that came with the chips were so spicy they were uneatable - we had to mix it with the cheese spread that also came (we will eat what most people consider medium spicy and love the flavors but when it burns your mouth and stomach continually after finishing your bite of food that is too much for us).
I think the owner was taking our own. I asked about the spiciness of one of the fish dishes and was told it was pretty spicy. I said the salsas were too spicy for us. I asked about a fish dish made with mild chiles and got a nod saying it was ok, so ordered it. This dish was very spicy, more than I would have liked, not what I consider mild at all. I had to make sure I got no extra sauce on the fish or it would be way to spicy. The fish was decent but on the dry side (previously frozen? though the menu said it was the fresh catch of the day). We also got the burrito chipolte. The burrito was so spicy it was pretty uneatable - it was spicier than the salsas. I don't know why we were not told that when we had said the salsas were too spicy for us. Service was spotty, the owner who took the order was ok, but a young man who was clearing dishes actually asked if he could take our appetizer dishes when we were still eating, saying our entrees were coming and he needed to make room (there was 2 of us at a table for 4, plenty of room), we said we needed a few more minutes. He then asked if he could have the plate the appetizer came on, so we moved the remaining food onto our individual plates. We felt this was very rude of him to ask this. We finished our appetizers a few minutes la

If you love Mexican Food, then you will love Frida
This is truely a unique restaurant. If you think that all Mexican food taste the same, then you need to try Frida's. Her menu has a huge variety with many specialty items. My in-laws insist on going here when they are in town. A beleive this is a place that everyone must try. Enjoy!

Very different and unique food..... by Katie J. at InsiderPages
We were disappointed. I can't say the food was bad but it was certainly not what we were looking for when we moved into the neighborhood and saw a mexican place so close to home - we ran there immediatley to only discover it was very different and not what we prefer.
Neat atmosphere. but have never returned and wouldn't try again.

Family friendly mexican by Jeff K. at InsiderPages
Frida's is named after Frida Kahlo, the Mexican painter. I don't know exactly what she had to do with food, but we'll assume she did indeed, eat. Frida's food is good, if a little generic. They have the basic taco/burrito/enchilada plates and some good seafood specials. The food is good, but not outstanding. The kids menu is fairly generous and my kids didn't have any problem finding something to eat. Their bar is fully staffed and they make a good pitcher of margaritas. All around pretty good, but not great

PROS: Good food, good atmosphere
CONS: Not the best Mexican food in the area

A surprise gem
The food served here is unlike any Mexican food I've had before. No longer can I eat at other "wanna-be" Mexican restaurants now that I've had the real deal. Frida's rich decor is a nice surprise, including chandeliers, tropical bar and a harpist (she played Stairway to Heaven - how cool is that!). The food is completely gourmet and the drinks are strong (try the Mango Margarita). Frida's downside - the horrible service. There is one employee who insists on conducting a loud conversation on his cell phone right next to our table when he should be waiting on us - EVERY SINGLE TIME! It puts us off on the experience and we swear we won't go back- if it wasn't for the delicious food!

Reminds me of Mexico City
So you're used to a platter filled with refried beans, rice, and an enchilada smothered in cheese? That's nice but take a chance on something more authentic at this attractive neighborhood restaurant. I worked on and off in Mexico City and got used to "real" gourmet Mexican food so I was thrilled to find this place near home. Try the amazing prawns with mushrooms and lime butter or the to-die-for tortilla soup. And if you still have room go for one of their petite but tasty desserts. This is a great place.

The name caught my attention. The food satisfied my soul. Close to if not authentic. Reminded me of my travels to Mexico. And were not talking resorts. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and service as well. Very friendly.

Too bad the service stinks
Been there three times so I know it isn't just a one time thing, but the service is just rotton. They try to pass it off as an upscale Mexican restaurant, and the food is quite good. Portions are on the small side for the price. What really ticked me off was that I wanted a drink (more money for them) but no one would come around! The help stood in a corner chatting away while the customers looked around for someone to give them service. No mas!
